Decatur and Little Five Points
On Monday we woke up pretty early, got ready and went to work…just kidding 😛
No office but at 6:00 AM we were already up, bloody jet lag! Left the room at 7ish, looking for a cafe in the neighbourhood but we didn’t have much luck…strange city. Headed back to the hotel and had breakfast there. After breakfast, we jumped on the car and drove through Midtown, then up to Decatur, looking for a prepaid SIM card but couldn’t find any working with our phones.
We had a lunch at The Vortex in Little Five Points, a district that has become famous for the alternative culture it brings to Atlanta. There’s plenty of shops and restaurants and a chilled out atmosphere.
We followed Lonely Planet’s advise and sat down at The Vortex, a burger joint that surely didn’t let us down. The burger sandwiches were wonderful and the service very good. The venue has so much to offer to the eyes that you can’t really get bored in there.
On the way back, we stopped at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, located on a hilltop overlooking downtown. We had a couple of hours of full immersion into American history of the 70’s and 80’s, the highlight being the Associated Press exhibition of photographs of US Presidents from Lincoln to Obama.
We were back at the hotel at 6:30 PM and we had what was supposed to be a little nap before going out for dinner…thing is we woke up at 4:00 AM the next day and…well didn’t have dinner and carried on sleeping.
Tell you what, in the end that was a good a thing as it helped us fully recover from the jet lag.
